We’ve received some questions about what it means exactly to be a delegate- fair question!
Folks who attend Convention can fall into three categories: delegate, alternate, and guest. Only delegates are able to vote; alternates are able to be raised to delegate status by their county chair in the instance that a delegate is unable to attend; and guests are anyone else who wants to attend the Convention. All three categories of folks must pay the Convention attendance fee, but again, only delegates are able to vote.
In a nutshell I can tell you that if you are interested in getting more involved in the Wisconsin political world, you should attend!
The Convention is a great opportunity to make more connections within the democratic community, attend skills trainings to deepen your knowledge on how we can operate most effectively to get democrats elected. In addition, there will be caucus & party unit meetings and plenty of opportunities to hear live from grassroots leaders, WisDems officers, elected officials, primary candidates, and much, much more.
During the Convention, delegates will vote for WisDems officers. And help shape our party’s policy priorities by voting on constitutional amendments and resolutions.
